from research paper to common place paper
My analytical research paper related how the viewer of Firefly sees Mal and his crew as the “good guys” because they get to see the world from their perspective, to how people may see parties that are typically portrayed as “bad goods” differently of they got to see their perspective as well. I used the event of Mal returning the medicine he stole at the risk of his own life to establish that he is portrayed as a “good guy.” I continue the paper by bringing up the point that if the American media showed International conflicts from the side they do not typically report on, peoples’ opinions on the matters may change. I used specific examples from international media sources reporting on conflict in the Middle East to show a different perspective. When I turn this paper into a Commonplace paper I really just plan on cutting down how deeply I go into the background on Firefly. I think the argument that American media forces the opinions of us citizens in one direction by only showing one side of the story in international affairs will be compelling.

I think that is very compelling and extremely timely. Anyone can really see that the media likes to give just one-sided stories, and I do not doubt that the way the US handles foreign affairs is cruel and unjust, just like how we treated the inmates in Guantanamo Bay. I know it will be difficult though, shifting from a paper all about Firefly to one about the media, I am having the same issue. I am sure we can still get some good content out of our topics though.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea. It is always better to look at something from every prospective. Just because they stell doesnt mean they are necessarily bad. If you see it from their side, it hardly even seems bad.
ReplyDeleteCompared to other peoples' topics, yours seem pretty complicated but interesting. I agree with what Laurel said because there is a bit of good with what they chose to do. Good luck with your CP paper!
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool idea. I would make sure to show the other side of the story though, and your rebuttal against it. The best way to refine our own arguments is by refuting another, that way you really know what you're talking about.
